Big Game Draw and Hunting Information

NEW: Elk Wildlife Management Responder Network

  • The Government of Alberta has created a special management authorization allowing eligible residents to respond to wildlife management conflicts. This authorization now includes antlerless elk involved in certain types of agricultural conflicts. The program will come into effect following the close of the antlerless elk hunting season.
  • Resident hunters aged 18 and older who are interested in becoming an elk responder will have the opportunity to apply for a cost of $5.00 + GST.
    • The window to apply will be open from February 21, 9:00AM MT – February 28, 2025, 11:59PM MT.
    • Selected individuals will be required to purchase an Antlerless Elk Quota licence issued with one tag for the cost of $12.00 + GST.
  • Applications and licences will only be available online here at AlbertaRELM.com.
  • The Antlerless Elk Quota licence can only be utilized in areas experiencing agricultural depredation, and drawn individuals will be contacted by Alberta Forestry and Parks’ Hunting and Fishing Branch staff with details of their hunt area and timing.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

  • Draw Code Change: Antlerless Elk hunting in WMU 300 (Draw Code 21) has been moved to Antlerless Elk Special Licence (Draw Code 19).
  • If you are drawn, the authorization to purchase that licence cannot be cancelled. All licences and applications are Non-Refundable and Non-Transferable.

  • Draw results and undersubscribed information are available online now.
  • To view your draw results online sign in with your WiN or the identifier on file. Select My Account then Orders/Reprints to view your results.

Minister's Special Licence

Each year, the Government of Alberta provides Minister’s Special Licence tags for select game species to be allocated through draws to raise money for wildlife conservation and stewardship in Alberta.

  • Minister’s Special Licences are valid from August 25 to August 24 of the following year, across the province where a hunting season for the respective species occurs (all current hunting related wildlife regulations still apply).
  • For 2024, the draw for Ministers Special Licences will be available online at AlbertaRELM or in person at over 300 private licence issuers.
  • Alberta Residents can submit up to 20 applications for each species, select species include Trophy Antelope, Antlered Mule Deer, Antlered Elk, Antlered Moose, Trophy Sheep, Wild Turkey, Antlered White-tailed Deer, Mountain Goat, and Cougar.
  • Application fees are $10.00 (plus GST) each with the exception of Trophy Sheep.
  • Trophy Sheep application fees are $20.00 (plus GST) each.
  • A 2024 Wildlife Certificate is required to apply for a Minister Special Licence.

General Information

Each applicant (Resident and Non-resident [Canadian]) must have a valid 10-digit Wildlife Identification Number (WiN), Wildlife Certificate, and must be eligible to hold hunting licences.

  • Undersubscribed licences are available on a first-come first-served basis.
  • If you are drawn, the authorization to purchase that licence cannot be cancelled. All licences and applications are Non-Refundable and Non-Transferable.
  • Order Tags Early: Big Game Licences require tags to be in hand before purchasing your licence. Tags can ordered in the mobile App, online, or picked up at a licence issuers.

Additional Information

  • Hunter Education: First-time hunters who have not previously held a hunting licence in Alberta or elsewhere, must complete the Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education course. Visit AHEIA.com for more details on becoming eligible to hunt.
  • Do I Need a Hunter Host(s): Anyone who is a non-resident hunter must be accompanied by a licenced hunter host if hunting big game, wolf, or coyote.
